I’m Linnea, founder of Clearly Nordic. I’m a writer and editor with more than 20 years’ experience from content agencies, local newspapers, commercial magazines and web publishing. After five years of editing English content produced by Scandinavian writers, I wanted to use my expertise to build something new, something of my own to help brands thrive.
I’ve worked with hundreds of Nordic brands over the years, and they tend to have this in common: they have very high standards, and they take pride in doing things properly. Shaped by the Law of Jante, Scandinavians loathe gloating – but if there’s one thing they dislike more, it’s people cutting corners and settling for anything but what’s right and best. That’s why I hate to see so many of these brands allow themselves to be let down by poor English and embarrassing mistakes.
Yes, Scandinavians are known for their impressive English skills, so of course it’s tempting to take a short-cut and spend the budget elsewhere – but it doesn’t really fit with the ethos of thoroughness and quality, does it?
A website with simple mistakes will make you seem sloppy at best. Marketing materials with poorly adapted expressions and flawed terminology will likely lose you business. I want clear communication in English to be non-negotiable.
